For the month of April the Fire Division handled 24 calls for service. Station 403 responded to 14 calls and Station 405 responded to 17 calls.

EMS training for the month was a presentation from the 911 center on radio communications and a look into our 911 centers operations.

Individual station fire training for the month had station 403 reviewing ladders and working on truck skills for our tower riders. Station 405 spent the evening working on hydrant operations and engine company skills.

Joint department fire training for the month was with the EMS division on radio communications and a look into our 911 centers operations.

On Friday April 12th PVFD EMS stood by to cover New Holland Ambulance for the afternoon/evening while their members took the evening off to spend at their members appreciation banquet. PVFD EMS had 4 calls while on standby for them.

On Sunday April 14th Engine 403 assisted Intercourse Fire Company with a trash fire. Units arrived on scene and found a fully involved construction dumpster. Engine 403 supplied Engine 441 with tank water while crews assisted with extinguishment and overhaul.

On Tuesday April 16th Engine 403, Special Unit 403, and Squad 405 assisted Rawlinsville Fire Department with a three-alarm fire. The Engine crew assisted with extinguishment and overhaul and the Engine provided 5 loads of tank water to the scene as apart of the tanker shuttle loop. Crews from Special Unit 403 and Squad 405 set up rehab and assisted EMS with rehab for the firefighters on scene.

In April PVFD was able to send 11 members to the FDIC conference in Indianapolis Indiana for 3 days. FDIC (Fire Department Instructors Conference) is a week-long conference and expo for the leading instructors and vendors all across the United States and even beyond in the Fire and EMS industry and service. This year there was an estimated 40,000 people in attendance for this event. Crews spent the three days taking several classes each day related to Fire and EMS operations, leadership traits and qualities, Recruitment and Retention, and more. In the evenings crews got the chance to socialized and hang out with follow volunteers in a “off duty” manner, outside the fire house. This trip was an incentive program where they had to earn the opportunity to go. In early 2023 Gordonville Fire Company’s leadership (prior to the merger of PVFD) took a hard look at where our weak points were as an organization, for example, weekend volunteer hours. We then selected the top 3 volunteers who put in the most hours over the weekends in 2023. Overall, there was 7 categories Fire and EMS volunteers had the opportunity to get selected to go.
